I have a confession: sometimes, I think girls who wear all vintage all the time are really annoying. Now before you start thinking that I’m being judgmental by categorizing them into certain style “archetypes” (you know the ones…), hear me out. I only find them annoying because sometimes what they’re wearing is so goddamn good, I want to buy the exact piece for myself. And I can’t. Because it’s vintage.
And now, I’m becoming one of those girls. Admittedly, when I started this blog in college, I often turned to second-hand items because I couldn’t afford much else on a student budget. But these days, I seek vintage pieces not because they’re the cost effective option (don’t be fooled, some vintage can cost a pretty penny — especially the kind that I like), but because of their one-of-a-kind appeal and because sometimes they’re just better than the brand new versions available for the masses to buy.
Both the blouse and straw bag I’m wearing here were picked up from the Reformation Vintage store on Melrose, which houses a very curated selection of second-hand pieces that fit that whole Reformation aesthetic (they even use some of these vintage pieces to style with their in-house designs on their website). I know some people disagree, but I personally don’t mind paying a little more of a premium for a well-curated selection if that means I don’t have to spend my time digging through the dollar bin at the local thrift store. Maybe one of these days, I’ll do a post on my favorite vintage resources.
