In the spirit of the holidays, I wanted to touch on a topic that I don’t often talk about here: giving back. While most people choose to give back to their community or to those in need by donating their time or money (both of which I need to start being better about TBH), I recently decided to start small by donating my goods to a meaningful cause. I clean out my closet at least once a season, re-selling pieces to Crossroads or the Real Real, listing them on Poshmark, or mindlessly handing them off to Goodwill just for the sake of getting rid of them. This season however, I wanted to do something different: I decided to clean out my closet with the intent of donating my clothes, shoes, and accessories to Dress For Success. For those who don’t know, Dress For Success is a non-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing the support, professional attire, and development skills they need to succeed in the workforce. You never know — something as insignificant (to you) as a pair of pumps could give a woman the confidence she needs to nail the interview and nab the job that turns her life around. And let me tell you, with two shopping bags filled to the brim with blazers, trousers, blouses, dresses, shoes, and jewelry, it felt good to know that my clothes would bring as much meaning and purpose to someone else as they once did to me.
David and I are looking for more ways to give back or volunteer this season, so if you have any recommendations or organizations you enjoy donating to, please send them our way! Happy Holidays!
