There’s this weird thing I do with my prized possessions. I purchase them, and then leave them sitting in their box, unopened, unused, for months on end, sometimes even a year. I waited so long to make them mine that once they are, I can’t bear the thought of actually using them. It’s like I put them on a pedestal and attribute so much arbitrary significance to them that they come to represent a precious ideal to me rather than an inanimate object. That was the case with this Céline cuff I bought for myself (secondhand) sometime last year. I can’t tell you how many times David asked me “when are you going to finally wear that bracelet,” that by the time I actually pulled it out of its box and dust bag this past weekend, he had long forgotten its existence. I’m slowly learning to enjoy my purchases — and wear them too — sooner rather than later. After all, what’s the point of spending all that money if you don’t get to reap the benefits? There’s something to be said about instant gratification. I know I’m not the only person that does this! Do you guys have this problem too?
