I saw a reel the other day that was advising millennials that they need to replace their stark white sneakers with dark-colored shoes if they want any hope of dressing more like Gen Zers. I’ll admit it made me stop scrolling and chuckle since my first inclination is to always reach for a pair in a softer color (like white, taupe, or brown) when I’m wearing light-colored bottoms in order to avoid that harsh contrast that wearing black shoes creates. But apparently Gen Z wears dark shoes with everything. I decided to give it a try and surprisingly didn’t hate it! I think the slouchiness of the jeans helps since with the shoes mostly covered, it doesn’t look like my legs are getting shortened by the contrast. It’s such a small outfit detail, but it’s so funny how ingrained these style “rules” can become for entire generations.
