So remember back in January when I shared my quest to go a full month of not shopping? Well, it’s almost March and I’m finally ready to share how it went. Short story short, I did not do well in January. I won’t go into too much detail since I don’t want to make any excuses for myself, but in the end, I couldn’t resist the pull of buying something new to wear to a work event I was attending, and well, buying one thing leads to buying more things. Because of this, No-Buy January ended up becoming No-Buy February, and second time’s a charm! By the time you’re reading this, we’ll have four more days left of the month and I’m confident February will be a success.
As I’m reflecting on the progress I’ve made this past month, I’m bummed to say I didn’t quite achieve the level of reconsideration I was hoping this exercise would bring. I mentioned in January that my goal was to re-think my consumption habit, and instead, at most, all I’ve done is put a pause on it for 29 days. I wanted to re-wire my brain to not desire shiny new objects as much as it does, but alas, I have a list of things I want to order and my credit card on standby as soon as March 1st comes around. Even though it didn’t go exactly as planned, I’m still proud that I stuck it out for a month, and hey, the first step toward change is awareness, right? I’m going to explore other avenues for cutting back on consumption overall, like limiting my shopping budget per month, or only buying secondhand, but would love to hear how you guys find that balance of wanting to wear something new/trendy while decreasing your fashion footprint.
On a lighter note, I’ve been loving the carpenter pant trend as an alternative to jeans this season. There’s such a cool girl factor to them, and I always get compliments when I wear these (plus, no one believes they’re from H&M!)
